About Me

I’m 66 and of reasonable intelligence. I welcome the inevitable challenges of today’s fast and furiously paced world. Over the years, my response to oncoming crises and confusion has been,“Bring it on!” Enter Medicare. Wow! Now I’m feeling confused, cheated and angry:hence, this blog. In retirement, I spent a year without medical coverage waiting to become Medicare eligible and praying to elude sickness. Except for one bad experience in an emergency room where an infection was misdiagnosed as cancer, I made it. I was charged $1500 for that misdiagnosis, but I survived to register with Medicare. Health insurance at last! I was elated at the prospect of affordable medical care, but my first doctor’s visit ended in a crash landing to reality. Medicare barely covered the cost of recommended diagnostics. I left the doctor’s office deeply in debt. I haven’t seen the doctor since and my health care situation is much worse since I became a Medicare recipient. Now I pay premiums for the care I still can’t afford. Medicare Advantage and other changes are meant to improve the system. But I doubt it. The purpose of this blog is to help us navigate the Medicare Jungle together.
