Introduction | I have been teaching for 29 years and am still just as excited about making learning fun as I did in my first year. I am happily married to my soul mate Bob, who has been my top supporter in every new teaching idea that I come up with. I grew up in the Midwest. As a teenager, I was a Girl Scout Leader and a Kindergarten Sunday School teacher in my church. Looking back, teaching has always been in my blood. In college I thought I wanted to become a child psychologist, but in my last year my goal changed to becoming an Elementary School teacher. After graduating from Marquette University, I then went to the University of Wisconsin and became certified as a K-6 teacher. With few opportunities open at that time to teach in Milwaukee, and with the winter temperature just a bit too cold for me, I decided to move to Tampa to start my new career. The children there were mostly migrant and needed much more than an average teacher. I immediately saw their struggles in learning and began making games to help them learn lessons in a fun way. The needs of these little learners inspired me to become a successful teacher who makes learning fun while teaching the Common Core Standards. |
