About Me

I'm a self-taught artist who grew up in the country raising and training animals, and teaching others how to work with animals. I didn’t begin my artistic career until 2004, when I was already in my forties. My favorite subjects are animals and people, but what I really want to do is inspirational paintings that honor and glorify God and will hopefully inspire others. My style of creating art is Realism. This means that I create art that looks like real life, similar to looking like a photograph, but not necessarily photo-realism. I enjoy painting subjects from a close range, especially macro type views (which my husband does not, for the life of him, understand ). I use professional artist grade colored pencils such as Prismacolor, Derwent Coloursoft, and Faber-Castell Polychromos. The reason for my use of pencils, as opposed to brushes, is control. With pencils, I feel more in control of the fine details in a painting, which is essential in realistic art. I have also begun to use soft pastels. My preferred brands are Rembrandt soft pastels, Richeson semi-hard pastel sticks, Mungyo soft and semi-hard pastels, and Derwent and CarbOthello-Stabilo pastel pencils.
