| Introduction | My husband and I have been married 23 years. We moved from town last year to the small farm where I grew up. We have four cats and hope to get chickens next year. My husband works in a factory, I work at home. Along with re-purposing projects, I love picking cherries, peaches, and apples off trees that came from ones my dad planted 40 years ago. I make jams and jellies and sell those along with breads, rolls, muffins, candies and cookies that I bake. I am a successful square foot gardener. My husband doesn't like outside work, so he takes care of the house and I take care of the outdoors, which includes sawing and hauling wood for our stove, mowing and trimming our very large yard, trying to keep wild grapevine and cat briar out of our trees and shrubs, all of the garden work, which includes catching the air conditioner runoff in buckets, hauling about 20 gallons at a time to my garden with a wheelbarrow, and making compost. We have central heat/air but like to save money and the environment when we can, so we use our clothesline a lot, freeze and can a lot of our food, and use the wood stove to cut our gas bill. Hard work? Yes, but I love every minute of it! |
