About Me

I am a member of the Scottish Parliament for Central Scotland, being elected at the general election held on 3rd May 2007. I was born and brought up in Glasgow and upon leaving Hyndland Secondary School I attended the Glasgow University where I graduated with a degree in Politics and History. During my time at university I was both the Senior Vice President of the Students' Representative Council and the convener of both the Federation of Student Nationalists and the Young Scots for Independence. After leaving university I worked for a short spell with an energy company (as well as a doorman at a Glasgow theatre) before beginning work with a SNP member of the Scottish Parliament. I was the SNP candidate in the Firhill ward on Glasgow City Council in 2003, before contesting the Cumbernauld, Kilsyth and Kirkintilloch East seat at the 2005 Westminster general election. In 2007 I was the SNP candidate in Cumbernauld and Kilsyth at the Scottish Parliament general election. I live with my wife in Glasgow and outside of politics I am a keen follower of football and an avid reader of history and biographies.
