| Introduction | Lavani is largely known to be sensuous and naughty in nature. The lyrics sometimes loop around socio-political themes but are often romantic, express longing, sometimes with sensuous subtleties and sometimes blatantly erotic. Through this photoblog I have reproduced lyrics from traditional and popular Lavani songs (mostly in Marathi and my funny sounding version in English) and tried to capture the essence of these different shades, mostly those that encompass the women’s expression of their own desire and sexuality. Some lyrics may be inappropriate for certain viewers so discretion is advised. What intrigued me the most about the subject was the strong display of female sexuality in these lyrics specifically in a socio-structure of modern India where sexual articulation is considered largely a male domain.
