Interests Laura Trantham Smith is an Assistant Professor at Stevenson University in Maryland where she teaches poetry, African American literature, and creative writing. She studied poetry at Naropa Univesrity and completed her Ph.D. at the University of Texas at Austin. Scholarly and creative works have appeared in Multi-Ethnic Literature of the U.S., PANK, and Monday Night. She has served as a Poet in the Schools in Philadelphia, PA and Austin, TX and has led gender and sexuality writing workshops at the Queer Texas Conference, the International Drag King Extravaganza, and OutYouth, Austin’s center for LGBTQ youth. She recently co-edited a special issue of the journal Reflections: Writing, Service-Learning, and Community Literacy, featuring innovative models of public scholarship.
