Introduction Old age is a time for reflection, for gratitude, and for honesty. I find myself taking stock these days, as I try to figure out what my experiences have meant and who I truly am. This is a solipsistic endeavor, but one I hope might be interesting or useful. If my life means anything, it must have meaning to others. All I can do is tell my story, so welcome to my blog.
Interests Literature, history, family, gardening, politics, economics, gourmet food (when someone else prepares it), good wine, and good conversation.
Favorite Music Classical, especially Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Chopin--the big guns. I like lots of other stuff too. I know it when I hear it, but I can never remember what anything is called, no matter how often I've heard it.
Favorite Books Too many to list, but a few favorites would be "Middlemarch" and "Adam Bede" by George Eliot, "The Children's Book" by A.S. Byatt, most of Iris Murdoch, Jonathan Franzen novels because they're such good reads, "On Beauty" by Zadie Smith, stories by Lorrie Moore, William Trevor, Mavis Gallant, Alice Munro, and the list goes on....
