Introduction University of Maryland Extension started this blog in March 2009. It has inspired and informed growing numbers of gardeners each year thanks to blog leader Erica Smith and our wonderful bloggers. I’ve been growing vegetables, herbs, and fruits for 30 plus years. I’ve been a commercial vegetable grower and have started 10 home gardens including a front yard tomato patch in Nashville and a cozy garden next to a dumpster in Baltimore. I’ve been growing in my current location for 13 years. Each growing season, like most food gardeners, I try a new crop or cultivar, have successes and failures, and learn a few lessons (or repeat some mistakes!) I love to grow, prepare, cook, preserve, and eat food. I spend my working hours on the University of Maryland’s Central Maryland Research and Education Center where I serve as the Director of the Home and Garden Information Center and State Master Gardener Coordinator for University of Maryland Extension. Vegetable growing is my area of expertise and I am especially excited about the Grow It Eat It program launched in early 2009.
