Introduction I am a mother, daughter, sister, wife, friend, and the only one of my siblings who had to work at getting a tan. I grew up in Key West, FL, where the sun was always available to me, whether I wanted it to be or not. Contrary to what most would think, I didn’t spend every weekend at the beach or on the boat. I’ve never even been on a jet ski. I did lay out quite often though, hoping that a dark tan would give me that popular 80’s teen film transformation where the girl goes from average to knock out overnight. I expected that one day I would get type 2 diabetes, (still expecting) because every generation before me has had it, but never cancer- especially melanoma. There is no family history. I am the first, and I hope last. I didn’t start this blog to tout myself as this “tough survivor” or “hero.” There are people who have gone through far more difficult of an experience than I did. They continue to fight daily and stay positive while doing it. THEY are the heroes. I started this blog to share my experiences and feelings, but more so to educate and promote melanoma awareness. I refuse to let melanoma destroy me or my life, and I’ll do what I can so others can say the same.
