About Me

Born in Wallsend on Tyne in the late 1940s, emigrated with family to South Africa in 1950. Grew up in Port Elizabeth and Durban. Rhodes University, Grahamstown 1965-1967 (BA in English and Ecclesiastical History). 1968-9 taught in a mission school in Rhodesia. 1970-1 St Paul's Theological College (Anglican), Grahamstown (Diploma in Theology). 1972-79 curacies in Anglican parishes in South Africa, London & Lincolnshire. 1977 BD (Hons) London University. 1979 onwards, bookselling in Cambridge. Married with three grown-up children.
