About Me

I've been the Lib Dem councillor for Cotham Ward since May 2007. I have lived just off Whiteladies Road since 2005. I moved to Bristol in 2000.

My main local priorities are about trying to find ways of dealing with the challenges of high-density living. Cotham is the geographically smallest ward in the city and the majority of households are either flat conversions or in multiple occupancy. This throws up a range of problems including waste, parking, neighbour disputes and crime.

I also have a strong interest in sustainability issues, particularly in terms of individual behaviour, transport and urban design. I am currently campaigning for new buildings in Bristol to have a minimum requirement for the use of renewable energy.

My wider political interests include environmentalism, civil liberties, democratic reform and reform of the prison system.

When I'm not a councillor, I work as a researcher at the University of the West of England. My main specialism is around students, particularly those coming from families which haven't sent people to university before. I am also working on issues around intercultural exchange and diversity.
