Introduction When I was younger my grandfather, who was a neurosurgeon, said to me “never go into medicine.” I watched for years while he and my grandmother, a Nurse, travel the world helping others in the Peace Corp. I attempted to follow his advice and went into business, but the smiles on the faces of all those people they helped never faded from my mind. So I left a position flying around the country for a company and went to the U. of Alabama to study Biology as a Howard-Hughes Medical Inst. undergraduate researcher. I went on to complete a Masters of Medical Microbiology at UAB Medical School. While I was there I worked with Children around the world who had contracted Malaria and I finally started seeing those smiles for myself. This began my work in the Clinical Lab and I have never looked back.
