About Me

What I am doing: Planning an "Appalachian Trail Thru-Hike" - "Breaking the Five-Pound Barrier" - "Can A Sane Person Truly Enjoy SuperUltraLight (SUL) Backpacking?" - "Make Most of my own Gear". For almost 2 years I have been working on and thinking a lot about a set of Ultra-Light gear for an AT Thru-Hike. I have read alot about "SuperUltraLight (SUL) gear lists /gear and breaking the "Five-Pound Barrier". I have read a lot of other articles and looked at a lot of gear lists for Ultra-Light Backpacking. My definition of the "Five-Pound Barrier" is as follows: "Base Weight is herein defined as the dry weight of gear and non-consumable supplies in your pack, excluding clothing worn, items normally carried (like trekking poles), and food, fuel, and water."
