About Me
In the early 1960s I taught for two years in a secondary school, then in the 1980s while working for Calderdale Council I taught in adult education. Between 1973 and 1978 I was Head of Interpretation at the Ironbridge Gorge Museum. After that I moved to become Tourism Officer in Calderdale, and in 1985 moved internally to take up the post of Public Relations and Marketing Officer for the Calderdale Inheritance Project, aimed at regeneration based on heritage activities. For just over a year I acted as Director of the Society for the Interpretation of Britain's Heritage, then another year as Senior Executive with design company Bulmer and Glennon, based in Leeds. Since 1992 I have lectured at Leeds Metropolitan University in Tourism Management. Between 1975 and 1999 I led local history weekends for Embassy Hotels, some three or four per year. If you SUBSCRIBE TO WESTWOOD HO! (quite free) you will receive feeds about new postings: use the link below. Why Westwood Ho! I lived as a child in an area called Westwood and started my own explorations from there. So yes, it plays on the name of the Devon resort and Charles Kingsley's story of Elizabethan seafaring.
