Occupation Former teacher, now retired
Location Copperopolis, California, United States
Introduction My husband and I live in a small house by a small pond that is just past the first and smallest foothill of the mighty Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Our nearest town has the rather large name of Copperopolis, but the town itself is also very small. During the school year I drive my small car down into the valley to teach 4th grade at – you guessed it – a smallish school. On both a grand and a personal scale, life is too short and too miraculous to be taken for granted. This chronicle of our life here at Frogpond Acres is one way for me to remain mindful and appreciative of the many not-so-small wonders and blessings that surround us.
Interests Most things animal, vegetable and mineral. More specifically, cats, poetry and really stinky cheese (all together, in the same room as me = Bliss). Also weaving, studying maps of faraway places and Ukranian folk music. And, umm, stuff like that.
Favorite Movies Pretty much anything without mental or physical violence, and with an intelligent plot and interesting dialogue. This criteria rather limits the field...
Favorite Music Eclectic and ever changing. One of the joys of being the supreme ruler and queen of my classroom is I get to pick music from different genres and from all over the world to play for my students. The first 15 minutes of every day are devoted to journal writing, and most mornings there is music. Panpipes from Peru, Gregorian chants, French songs, Native American drums -- we listen to it all. Even though I am queen, the students requests are heard and frequently honored. This is usually our favorite time of the day.
Favorite Books I love books written by Americans who have chosen to live abroad. If the book also includes gardening and recipes, so much the better. I also love Jane Austin, Douglas Adams, Beverly Nichols, Colette, David Sedaris, Bill Bryson and Anne Lamott. And more!
