Introduction I am a marine biology enthusiast. My current project is an internship with the University of Washington’s Conservation Biology Department using canines to identify SRKW scat and analyze it for the presence of toxins. I spent a year as a West Coast Groundfish Observer under the new 100% coverage catch shares program out of Astoria, Oregon working on bottom-trawling vessels.
Prior, I attended the University of Washington and received my Bachelor of Science in Aquatic and Fishery Sciences with a minor in Quantitative Sciences. Focal research included the effects of derelict gear on marine fauna in the Puget Sound, comparison of marine derived nutrients in salmon bearing streams versus non-salmon bearing streams in southern Idaho and mechanisms for accurately modeling Pacific Sockeye Salmon returns in South West Alaska.
My interests span from the curiosities at the depths of the deep blue to the effects of conflicting goals competing over a resource and how that reverberates through society. This space is meant to be both homage to the area I love (all things ocean) and a place for discussion about new discoveries and policy decisions.
