Turner Hall of Monroe

About me

Industry Non-Profit
Occupation Swiss Heritage & Community Center
Location Monroe, Wisconsin
Introduction Established in 1868 by Swiss and German immigrants to south-central Wisconsin, the Turner Hall of Monroe is the only Turner (gymnast) Hall of Swiss origin left in the United States. The original building, which burned in 1936, was replaced with an Emmental-style chalet in 1938, and is listed on the National & State Registers of Historic Places. Its government and mission to preserve and perpetuate traditional Swiss culture is essentially the same today as it was in 1868. The facility houses a Ratskeller Restaurant; Grand Hall, complete with a stage and large wooden dance floor; and a small 8-lane family-friendly bowling facility. The building is full of irreplaceable Swiss folk art, history and artifacts that relate to the area's Swiss culture.
