Introduction | Jere Joiner has had a divergent career in law enforcement, journalism and academia. He retired as captain of detectives for the Shreveport Police Department. Then for seven years he wrote hard news and 350 consecutive weekly opinion columns for a Colorado newspaper. He blogs occasionally and his Pikes Peak Politics columns can be found by searching Google. Comments are welcome. Until he retired completely in 2011, Capt. Joiner was course director for Indiana University's Center for Studies of Law in Action. The Center presents the Robert F. Borkenstein Course on Alcohol and Highway Safety: Testing, Research and Litigation; and The Effects of Drugs on Human Performance and Behavior. The course targets toxicologists, prosecutors and law enforcement supervisors and teaches them how to be better expert witnesses in impaired driving cases involving alcohol or other drugs. |
