Introduction | I'm an academic and writer who spends an inordinate amount of time with her dogs. My 1 yr old Australian Shepherd Cassie and I are currently training in both obedience and agility and Cassie has achieved the level of Intermediate Trick Dog (see Do More with Your Dog). My other pup Lilly is a 14 yr old MinPin, who doesn't do much of anything; like Greta Garbo she just wants to be left alone. I also spend some time working with my mother's 4 yr old Rat Terrier mix Tobey, who is nothing but trouble. Together they provide a good spectrum of size, energy level and age for product comparisons. They also each come with their own, how should I put it, eccentricities. Cassie is a heavy chewer with way too much energy and a high capacity for mischief. Lilly is quite arthritic and doesn't really have any play drive. Tobey (the only rescue) has some problems with resource and toy guarding, but is very food motivated and a quick learner. Together they make up a good scale against which to judge toy appropriateness. |
