About me

Gender Female
Location HAMDEN, Connecticut, United States
Introduction Discovering, learning, and loving the woman that I am. Everyday is new experience and an opportunity to grow. All we can do is take life one day at a time, and be appreciative of every moment, believing that it all serves a purpose in the end. I CAN ONLY BE ME!!!
Interests I love to write whether it be journaling, poetry, short stories, etc. When I am feeling inspired, I cannot but my pen down. Photography has become a hobby and I am ready to take it to the next level by investing in classes. I love to sing, but over the years have lost a bit of my voice...so voice lesson may be in my future as well. I love to cook...not bake...just cook. I love video blogging, spending time with family and friends (especially my nieces and newphews)
Favorite Movies I have several. Every Black person needs to see "Rosewood". That's all I need to say. The movies will speak for itself. Also "Roots" and Malcolm "X". Other favorites are, The Imitation of Life (50's version), Love and Basketball, Love Jones (really love that one), Disappearing Acts, The Godfather I, II(2 is the best- young Robert Dinero). Antwone Fisher, Training Day, Mostly all Spike Lee Joints, The Bronx Tale (I love Lilo Broncato), Meet the Parents, The Best Man, Brown Sugar, The Fast and the Furious, Tokyo Drift, and 2 Fast Furious (that one's for PAPI). More recent flicks: Secret Life of Bees, every Tyler Perry movie, and for laughs Tropic Thunder. Since I don't have cable, I have been watching a lot of movies...I have way too many favorites to place on this list.
Favorite Music I LOVE MUSIC. GOOD MUSIC. I'll listen to anything as long as I enjoy the lyrics and the feeling of the song. My favorite genres are Neo-soul(Maxwell, Angie Stone, Amel Larrieaux, India.Arie, Jilly from Philly Erykah Badu, Goapele, and many more), SOUL (Sade, Prince, classic Aretha, Chaka, Donnie Hathaway, Isley Brothers, Minnie Riperton, and so many more) REAL hip hop (Tribe, De la Soul, Common, Talib Kweli, Guru, Mos Def, Nas, Eric B& Rakim) YOU GET THE POINT. If I can connect with a song, I love it!!! NO DAY IN MY WORLD EXSISTS WITHOUT MUSIC!!!!! I WAKE UP TO MUSIC, I FALL ASLEEP TO IT.
Favorite Books When I have time to read, I'll read some poetry "Def Jam's Bum Rush the Page, Tupac, Nikki Giovanni, Maya Angelou (because I am phenomenal...lol.), Jill Scott, Tupac Shakur I love the Harlem Renaissance and everything about it from literary and musical stand point. Loved "Confessions of a Video Vixen", "Coldest Winter Ever", "Fabulosity". I like slave narratives (keeps me in the right perspective), Favorite authors include Alice Walker, Zora Neale Hurston, Eric Jerome Dickey, E. Lynn Harris, and Zane, Toni Morrison, Lorraine Hansberry and so many more. One of the first books that really made a difference in how I looked myself was "The Autobiography of Malcolm X- As Told To Alex Haley". I recently bought another copy after realizing that my original copy was more than weathered. It was a book that my mother actually wanted me to read, always stressing that "knowledge is power" "History is HIS Story, so you better learn yours" The movie comes pretty close, but the book is the best.
