| Introduction | I'm a 39 year old elementary school teacher working in North Vancouver. This is my first foray into ultra distance or extreme events. Part of my motivation for doing this has to be ‘mid life crisis’ but I’m also taking this opportunity to help raise awareness and support for child refugees from Darfur. UNICEF is currently funding a number of schools in refugee camps for these children in crisis. As a teacher I know the power that education can play in a person’s life, and I guess I just got tired of watching this tragedy unfold on television without doing anything about it. |
