Introduction This blog was created to in order to highlight the differences between ineffectual, harmful public education policy practice and best policy practice. Current harmful policy practice includes privatization of public schools; grade retention/social promotion; seclusion rooms/corporal punishment/suspensions/arrest; standardized high stakes tests; alternative teacher certification; and curriculum standards. The best policy counterparts to the above are: equitable resources for ALL schools; promotion plus; behavior intervention plans; school and teacher based assessments (including portfolios, celebrations of learning, teacher made tests, and presentations); two to five year teacher preparation programs (including foundations of education, classroom management, and child development courses); and best teaching and learning practices (including individualized education programs for ALL students, cooperative learning, literature circles, writing workshops, inquiry learning, independent study, and socratic seminars). It is my goal to influence conventional wisdom about schools and influence public education policy through the introduction of best policy practice on a nationwide scale.
