| Introduction | I am a fifth-grade teacher in Jefferson County, Colorado, and the author of "The Elementary Common Sense of Thomas Paine: An Interactive Adaptation for all Ages," published by Savas Beatie, Inc. I hold a Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction and am certified in Elementary Education. I've taught expelled and court-ordered students in coordination with the District Attorney's Office, and recently completed a two year study with the Colorado Department of Education on a national study to find ways to eliminate gaps in education for homeless and highly-mobile children. Prior to becoming a teacher, I owned a video and music store for 14 years. In 2006, I was campaign manager for a candidate running for the Colorado State House of Representatives, where the theme of the campaign was making public schools the centers of community.
