Introduction An all volunteer organization, Buddhist Relief serves as a network for worldwide compassion. At this time, we offer our website as a clearinghouse for information from a Buddhist perspective in regard to the situation in Burma. Buddhist Relief was born in the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Seeing the plight of people on the Gulf Coast, Jetsunma Ahkon Lhamo, the founder and Spiritual Director of Kunzang Palyul Choling, yearned to bring hands-on compassion to people in a desperate situation. Buddhist Relief volunteers in Maryland and Arizona networked with local Asian grocers, and other organizations to gather, deliver, and distribute relief supplies (food, clothing, and cooking materials) to the Vietnamese and Laotian communities in Alabama and Mississippi.
