The Grateful Rabbi

About Me

I have been a pulpit rabbi for over 45 years, serving several congregations in the New York and New Jersey area. In 1975, I earned an MSW degree and practiced as a clinical social worker both in an agency and in private practice. I later pursued an advanced degree in Jewish Philosophy at the Jewish Theological Seminary, earning a DHL (Doctor of Hebrew Letters) in 1997. In 1990, I was awarded an honorary Doctor of Divinity degree from the Jewish Theological Seminary. Currently, I teach at the Gerard Berman-Solomon Schechter Day School, Oakland, NJ as well as at the WURZWEILER SCHOOL OF SOCIAL WORK,NYC.as adjunct professor of philosophy. My writing has appeared in a variety of local Jewish newspapers, Conservative Judaism, and a recently published article on Judaism and Retirement in The United Synagogue Review. I have written one recently published manuscript on gratefulness : "I THANK THERFORE I AM- GRATEFULNESS AS HEALING" AND two as yet unpublished works- "THE SABBATH-A DAY OF GRATEFULNESS," and "SIDDUR MODEH ANI-A COMMENTARY ON THE PRAYER BOOK." I am immeasurably grateful for my cherished wife Rose Lederman and our two precious children, Jessica and Jeremiah.
