| Introduction | Shelly Lowenkopf has been publishing short fiction, pulp novels, essays, and reviews since the late ’50s. His book reviews have appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Los Angeles Times, L.A. Herald-Examiner, Los Angeles Free Press,The National Catholic Reporter, The Santa Barbara News-Press, The Santa Barbara Independent. He has had a weekly book-review column Montecito Journal since 2005. As an editor for general trade, literary, scholarly, and massmarket book publishers, as well as a freelance consultant, he's seen well 500 books through the editorial process into bookstores. He's been a core faculty member Master of Professional Writing Program, Univ. of Southern Cal 1974-2008. He's also taught creative writing and fiction-related courses at Westmont College, and Antioch University (Santa Barbara). In 2012, he was appointed visiting professor, in College of Creative Studies, UC Santa Barbara. He led the late-night fiction workshop Santa Barbara Writers’ Conference 1980- 2012. His newest long-form work, "The Fiction Lover's Companion" published in 2011, will be reprinted in November of 2012 with new material and format. |
