Introduction	When I was 9 I wanted to be a spy. I even bought a book on “How to be a Spy” which advised me to part my hair down the middle (because no-one would recognise me that way?!)and to always take a block of chocolate on missions. I already parted my hair down the middle, so that was wasted advice, but I took the chocolate thing seriously. When I was 12 I wanted to be an Egyptologist. Despite my aspirations neither careers eventuated. For 15 years I practised industrial relations and was generally given the projects that required problem-solving concerning language and communication. I collect qualifications - most recently a post-grad degree in linguisitics . I live in Sydney with two children, two cats, one husband and a super-sized Australian Oxford English Dictionary. Ms Asterisk and I use this space to post our thoughts on the English language "downunder".
