| Introduction | I am British and I live in Raleigh North Carolina. I kept hens in the UK and wanted to keep them here too. I never thought it would be possible, due us originally living in apartment. We have now moved to a wonderful house with a great garden. To be able to keep hens again is a dream come true. Why chickens? It was the only pet Dave and I could agree on! I knew I wanted something to love and care for. I dreamed of having a dog or rabbit but eventually we settled on chickens. I am so glad we did as they have changed and shaped my life. If someone had told me 5 years ago that I would be gushing about the joys of chicken keeping, I'd of thought them crazy. But they have given me lots of pleasure but also heartache of owning a pet. But the happiness out weighs it all. Chickens are such funny creatures with big personalites. They love routine (a bit like me!) and their antics keep me laughing. They do remind me of little dogs. They follow you around in beg for treats. I love all animals and I also voluteer as a dog walker at local shelters. |
