Introduction | My name is Chris Farina and I am a fledgling linguist. Having spent much of my education focusing on classical Latin and ancient Greek, I enjoy contemplating English and Romance etymologies and postulating Proto-Indo-European (PIE) roots. Likewise, I spend a great deal of time tracing PIE roots through ages and cultures. Sensing a gap in my language education, I have variably taken up learning Sanskrit and Young Avestan. This blog will invariably tread in the territory of all four dead languages: their roots, grammar, and morphology. However, it will not be limited to just dead languages. I am an educator and a philologist at heart, so all aspects of language are fair game. Whether I can provide an answer off of the top of my head or I have to spend more time than I should scouring journals, periodicals, and dictionaries, you can be certain that each entry will be composed to the best of my meager ability. My main goal is to impart as much information as accurately and as understandably as possible. When I fail miserably, I want to know. Such criticism can only improve our collective understanding, but do try to be civil about it. |
