Introduction A Very British Affair reflects and celebrates a range of traditional motifs and themes - from traditions, customs and rituals, to the nostalgic, quirky and eccentric. Homewares and accessories celebrate the idiosyncrasies of our heritage and lifestyle through the use of pattern, colour and texture. I like to use traditional materials, with a focus on upcycling and reworking; tweeds and felted woollens supported by velvet and utility cottons are evocative of days gone by and reflect my love of traditional British fabrics, the idiosyncrasies of British culture, heritage and tradition. I have found that creating something domestic that encourages a slower pace of life and an emphasis on ‘function’ provides a perfect foil to lecturing in graphic design which I have done for nearly 20 years. I am keen to explore the idea and value of traditional skills and the Slow Movement; an emphasis on deliberation and reflection on the process are central to my practice as a maker and an antidote to the instant gratification of the digital design age.
