Introduction | I studied at Central Saint Martins in BA Graphic Design (2004) and also Camberwell College doing my MA in Illustration (2008). I have been published in Vice, Timeout, Diplo, The New Albion and a few indepependently published comics/magazines. My illustrations are a hybrid of medieval Europe & Orient with contemporary art. It is very much character mythology and based. Thematically I am interested in describing our current world reflected through the imagery of everything that has come before, whether it be political or about the aesthetics of design or fashion. I hand draw 95% of everything I do, most often with a brush and then meticulously draw tiny dots for shading with a fine-liner, minimal colour palette and photoshop. I also design toys and silver jewellery, mainly rings which carry the same theme and subject matter of my illustrations. |
Interests | Drawing, lots of it! Artists include Jack Kirby, Mike Mignola, Dave Simm, Jeff Jank, Urushibara Yuki, Matsumoto Taiyo, Toriyama Akira, Koike Kazuo, Kawanabe Kyosai. I enjoy reading about ancient civillisations, mythology and folklore. Things like Aztec, Mayan lore, superstitions of Ye Olde Europe and the Far-East. Generally old funky stuff like ghost stories and fairy tales. Comics too because I suppose these are our folk lores of our times, yet less folky just lore-y... |
