Industry Agriculture
Occupation Grower, Nurseryman
Location Plant City, Florida, United States
Introduction Our farm is a 17 acre spread outside of Tampa, Florida. We have a wonderful climate during winter although pretty hot during the summer. I started propagating young trees at a rented greenhouse/blueberry farm which later became a Keel and Curley winery. I purchased a 17 acre old orange grove then married my wife Jennifer. I started farming with her connections to the Keels. Our farm is diversified by growing about 2 acres of tree starts and woody ornamental plants under the business name ArborStarts, Inc. We grow these plants using integrated pest management. We also grow about 14 acres of organic oranges and are starting a sustainable, organic, locally grown and delivered vegetable division. This blog is a casual conversation with our friends around the world on the trials, tribulations, accomplishments, and success trivial or otherwise of beginning an organic operation in the sunshine state. I hope to share with you our love of farming and hope to harness the goodwill, knowledge, and creative intellect of anyone who wishes to carry on the conversation with us.
