| Introduction | Home is a cosy Barratt's Box in a village on the edge of Dartmoor where I live with Louis, my son aged ten. With my friends who include Barbie Nurse, Mr Metrosexual, Scary Secretary and of course, Mr Anonymous from Guyana, I work with older people with dementia and other mental health problems and believe that my own near lifelong bouts of depression have promoted my understanding of people with similiar experience and have afforded me a great opportunity to grow personally. I'm living proof that you can live with this illnesss optimistically and happily! After concluding that there are often no absolutes I have resolved to live a productive, creative and meaningful life in the grey zone. The fear of criticism, both from myself and others has represented a barrier to doing things in the past. I am now embracing the imperfect, throwing aside 'black and white thinking' and seeing where that takes me. This blog represents my attempts to do this and my intention is to share the good times but not mask over the times when things will, invariably, go pear shaped! |
