Introduction ArputhaRani Sengupta is art historian-painter and Professor in History of Art, National Museum Institute, New Delhi. Received special recognition in the National Exhibition (1994) and has been exhibited widely, more recently in Nature Morte (New Delhi, 2005). Paintings in private and public collections, including the National Gallery of Modern Art, New Delhi. Research on Early Buddhist Culture and Egypt traced in Indus Valley Civilization. Publication - 'Art of Terracotta' (2000) and 'Manimekalai' that explore Cultural Synthesis in Buddhist Epic in Tamil(IRICS, Vienna, 2005), ‘Alexandrian Imagery of Immortality in Gandhara’ (ICANAS, Montreal 2000,‘Naqada Traced in Indus Valley Culture’ (ICOM, Egypt 2007). Editor - 'God&King:Ddevaraja Cult'(2004) and 'Cult of the Goddess' ( 2007) Lectured worldwide and is recipient of research grant - Buddhist Art of India: Symbols & Substitutes.
