About me

Introduction My name is Karen. I was born on Nov. 11, 1956 at Illinois Masonic Hospital on the north side of Chicago. I lived at 2412 W. Bryn Mawr across the street from Rosehill Cemetery and across the street from Keuter’s Texaco. I spent many fun hours playing in my Dad’s gas station. I think I had a pretty diverse childhood. I lived in the city and we moved to Des Plaines when I was in second grade, so I also grew up in suburbia. I spent my weekends and summer vacations with my aunts on the south side of Chicago. One of my aunts was a Felician nun for 77 years. I also spent lots of time with my Auntie Stella who lived on a farm in Lockport. It was so great to wake up in the morning to a box of baby chicks or ducks placed next to the stove to keep them warm. I use to play in chicken coops and barns with my cousins. We moved to Gage Park on the south side of Chicago in 1971. I am the Gage Park correspondent in the Southwest News Herald. I love animals. I have many interests like photography, cows, cast iron, baking, old cook books, cemeteries, old churches, and Chicago history. I collect cow creamers and cake pans.
