About Me

My passion is to equip people to change lives with Christ's changeless truth through comprehensive, compassionate, culturally-informed biblical counseling and spiritual formation. That's why I authored Soul Physicians, Spiritual Friends, Beyond the Suffering, and Sacred Friendships. That's why I Chair the MA in Christian Counseling and Discipleship Department at Capital Bible Seminary. In my three pastoral ministries, I trained hundreds of lay people in spiritual friendship. As a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I try to bring a practitioner's sensitivity to my writing, speaking, and consulting. I direct the Biblical Counseling and Spiritual Formation Network for the AACC. I am the founder of RPM Ministries. I earned my BA in Pastoral Ministry from Baptist Bible College, my ThM in Theology and Biblical Counseling from Grace Seminary, and my PhD in Counselor Education from Kent State University. I live in Crown Point, IN with my wife of twenty-eight years, Shirley. We have two children: Marie, 20, and Josh, 24, who is married to Andi.
