Introduction I'm a 30 something mom with a disabling case of Schizo-Affective disorder, bipolar type, as well as a handful of other diagnoses. Before I had my first mental health breakdown, I was a teacher. I earned my MA degree in counseling and worked as a school counselor for a year before I became disabled. On March 22, 2010 I had Weight Loss Surgery to help me lose the 130 lbs. I have gained on psychotropic medication. The Lap-Band system failed and was removed on August 8, 2011. It is my hope that through my experiences as both a consumer of mental healthcare and my experiences with my lap-band that my readers will feel educated on both aspects of my medical life and will be inspired to take care of themselves holistically, body, mind and soul.

Favorite Movies As a child of the 70s, I grew up with John Hughes films. They are still my favorite, with Pretty in Pink and Some Kind of wonderful topping the lists.
Favorite Music Lilith fair type artists, hands down. I am so excited for the new tour this summer. I'm also a huge fan of 80s, 90s, and "alternative" music.
Favorite Books I read a lot of memoirs, self help books, and Jennifer Weiner novels. I also have a bordering on obsessive relationship with magazines. My favorites are Glamour, Marie Claire, and real Simple.

Sponges and tongues are frequently misspelled. Is it because both are thirsty?

Yes, yes it is.
