Don R. Long
About Me
Artists, photographers and writers can be found on both sides of Don Long's family tree. Born in LA and educated at University of California Long Beach, USC, and Laguna College of Art & Design. Long's keen eye for color and style was shaped from early childhood while attending a Santa Monica preschool where daily art lessons was the norm. As a military photographer he honed his skills with a 4x5 camera, vintage Leicas, and gained wet darkroom expertise. In 2001 he left the freeways of southern CA behind and moved to the Four Corners. He now divides his time between homes in Sierra County New Mexico, and Pagosa Springs, Colorado, where he and his wife, artist Susie Long, share studios in their secluded wilderness homes. "The sacred wilderness where I like to work is full of inspiring light, creative energy, and soul. I finally have the freedom to experiment in different mediums, and work as a full time artist. I took the creative leap. I hope my art makes a very direct statement to your emotions, and fills in the spaces." His art and photographs have been exhibited in numerous galleries and private collections throughout the Southwest, and California since the early 1980's.
