| Introduction | I'm a Colossal Squid (Mesonychoteuthis hamiltoni, from Greek mesos (middle), nychus (claw), and teuthis (squid)), sometimes called the Antarctic or Giant Cranch Squid. I have been belly dancing since 2008 so am a relative newbie! I'm believed to be the largest squid species in terms of mass and the only known member of the genus Mesonychoteuthis. Unlike the giant squid, whose arms and tentacles only have suckers lined with small teeth, my limbs also have with sharp hooks: some swiveling, others three-pointed. I have the largest eyes in the animal kingdom. Sometimes I answer questions submitted by readers of The Occidental Dancer, but mostly I deal with stuff that's totally made up. If you have a dance-related question for me or just want to know how I manage to dance underwater, email me: architeuthis(at)hotmail(dot)co(dot)uk. |
