Prodigal Borough

About Me

I started The Prodigal Borough in August 2005 with CvB because we had discovered that, despite its reputation, Staten Island is a beautiful, affordable, and interesting place with great architecture and a wide mix of genuinely friendly and interesting people. And like Brooklyn Heights, Jersey City, Hoboken, Red Hook, and other recently revitalized areas, it's just across the water from Manhattan. When looking for a place to live (and finding that everything was small, dingy, and ridiculously expensive), we were shocked to find that Staten Island was as affordable as it was purely as a result of snobbery (ask five of your friends if they'd ever move to Staten Island and you'll see what I mean). That means that if you're looking, you can get a lot of house/apartment/outdoor space/views/loft for a lot less money than anywhere else so close to Manhattan. I'm committed to breaking the stereotype people have the island, and this blog is how I'd like to do it.
