Introduction Highly analytical with hard-nosed pragmatic bent; charismatically articulate at times, while at others profoundly reticent. Overbearing at times, tending to obsessive-compulsiveness. A sucker for tears. Raw, raunchy, proletarian sense of humor. From a poor farming family in northern Mexico, worked my way through school, acquiring along the way a special affinity for the working class and dispossessed in the rural and urban areas of Mexico. Became especially attracted to the work of Dorothy Day, Simone Weil and other post-Marxists as well as their religious aspirations. Spent numerous years in and out of factories where I worked at numerous levels of corporate hierarchy, often leaving well-paying positions as a manager to join at the bottom rung to experience the diversity of alienation and working class circumstances of different industries. Retired to teach in rural schools populated mostly by agrarian Mestizos. Became involved with indigenous rights and the movements fighting globalization and neoliberal hegemonies.
