About me

Gender Female
Occupation Professional seamstress and sewing instructor.
Location DeForest, WI
Introduction A lifelong sewer, starting at age seven on my grandmothers treadle machine, I have sewn bridal gowns, tailored suits & airline upholstery! Being self-taught, I decided to return to school at the College of DuPage in Glen Ellyn, IL taking "Professional Dressmaking, Alterations & Repairs". It was very informative & a great way to meet other sewing professionals to network with. Need something sewn or altered? I can help you. Starting with making my own clothes & then those for family & friends, I've sewn garments for kids, women & men of all shapes & sizes. This led to my starting a business in the early 90's in IL. Recently, I decided to start a sewing business again along with working part time at David's Bridal as an alterations specialist. Besides garment sewing, I have also sewn home dec items & attended the Professional Drapery School in North Carolina. I don't currently have space availabe to sew draperies but can do smaller items such as pillows. Have a question about something you need sewn? Please contact me to see if I can help. My husband & I just moved to DeForest. I'm looking forward to meeting & sewing for people in this area. And teaching classes!
Interests Passing on my skills through teaching sewing classes is especially dear to my heart. I've enjoyed teaching kids (ages 6 and up) as well as adults. Throughout the 90's and into the 2000's, I taught over 1, 000 kids to sew using the Kids Can Sew program. It is so rewarding to watch a young child gain an interest in what some say is a dying art and to see their skills increase. One student attended classes for seven years. I watched her grow from a child of 6 into a young lady of 13, totally amazed at the physical growth as well as the growth of her expertise. Teaching adults - from beginner level to advanced - is also a joy. I may not always have the answer but have enough resources available to find it for you! Watching any student, regardless of age, finish a project extremely happy with themselves gives me a sense of fulfillment. Whether you are just starting out or an experienced sewer stuck on a project, I can help you in an individual class held within my home. I am certified with the Home Sewing Association as a sewing instructor. I would consider doing group classes if you have space available. Unfortunately, I do not have the space in my home.
