| Introduction | Sukarya, is a non-profit development organization committed to working on issues affecting the health status of rural and urban communities in Delhi and Haryana since 1999. Registered in 2001, addressing the fundamental development need of health has been the mainstay of our efforts. The focus of our work is primarily on improving the RCH and health status of urban and rural poor by bringing comprehensive primary health care services within easy reach of the underserved and marginalized communities. The low health status of women and children owing to social and cultural impediments resulting in low accessibility to quality health care services is an area of particular concern to Sukarya. In order to improve women’s accessibility to health, the larger issues of social and economic backwardness of women that hinder accessibility also need to be addressed. Therefore, economic and social empowerment interventions aimed at improving the status of women are being dovetailed with the direct health programs. Women empowerment has thus emerged as a strategic thrust area defining our work. |
