Introduction I have always lived in Essex and for the last thirty-five years by the sea, where I love to run along the sea wall. On one run I reached the causeway to Northey Island near Maldon where, twice at the end of the 10th century, the local Anglo Saxons had fought to prevent the invading Vikings pillaging the town and King Aethelred’s mint in the local Burh (castle.) I am psychically aware and could feel the fear and even the pain from those terrible encounters. There and then, I decided to write a non-fiction book about this and the Dengie Hundred area. However, there was little authentic recorded material that hadn’t been published in leaflet form – not surprising, as details were very sparse. For example, one battle was reported in the Liber Eliensis thus: In AD 987 Byrhtnoth met them with an armed force and killed nearly all of them on the bridge. I concluded that, with so little detail, I should have to write a fictional novel series based on the few facts available. My first novel ‘Viking Sword, Saxon Shield.’ is now available on Amazon, or at my web site: http://www.inspirational-legends.co.uk/
