Introduction I'm a 30-year veteran of the non-profit health care industry who suddenly found himself laid off in 2009 along with 50 or so others from his organization to face the worst economy in over 75 years--in large part thanks to the greed and selfishness of a type of American banker who focused only on personal short term gains and immediate satisfaction. I think that those who cruelly threw us away were not really aware of just how bad things were in the real world and how ineffective any stimulus efforts would be. Nor could they predict what the actual impact on our lives would be! Now I think its time for me to share what are the positives and negatives of living through a layoff, knowing that those experiences will be unique to me--but perhaps shed some light for others on what some of us have been experiencing, while the politicians, the commentators on Fox News and the Wall Street bankers have been blissfully unaware of our situation.
