Introduction Olivia and Beatrix have been friends and journalists for over 20 years and have discussed city living for that long. They've lived in various cities in the US, in Europe, and the Middle East, including Boston, New York, Milwaukee, Berne, Rome, London, Alexandria (Egypt) and Paris. This blog will hopefully be a place where people can reflect on city living: urban centers are indeed dirty, crowded, expensive and chaotic but they are also places where wonderful things happen and where a great diversity of people meet and live side by side. The theory is that a person living in Casablanca, Morocco, will have more in common with the person living in Paris or London, than with someone living in a village in the Atlas mountains. All urbanites are faced with problems of housing, transportation, child-care, plumbing, overcrowding and pollution. And yet each city and its people have their own way of dealing with these problems. One Metropolis aims to offer vignettes of cities and different viewpoints on how city dwellers world-wide cope with the same issues.
