| Introduction | I'm not your prototypical liberal. I have never voted for a Democrat presidential candidate (yes, I'm very ashamed of my 2 votes for Bush II). I used to cut out pictures of Ronald Reagan from the newspaper when I was 8. I thought Bush I got a raw deal and that Ross Perot would have solved a great many problems if he was elected in '92. And my conservative side does show itself on occassion still. But I'm all for gay/lesbian rights, minority rights, reducing our need for oil, keeping the environment safe and protected, regulating businesses [especially the banks and Wall Street], and the liveable wage. While others rant about "getting the Gov't out of the way of business", I point out that it would be great to "get business out of the way of Gov't". I don't see Gov't regulation as a job killer. Rather, it has allowed our society to enjoy clean water, air, food, and other necessities. The Gov't also can help make the Tough Decision, when we don't want to make it ourselves. In the end, Gov't isn't the problem. Gov't just needs to free itself of corporate money and influence so that it can start making good decisions again. |
