Introduction Gary Peterson is a longtime fan of television, movies, old-time radio and books spanning comic books to the great books.
Interests Books--real, paper books, especially old Penguin Classics. I'm also a fan of Bantam's 1960's black-and-white-spined paperbacks.
Favorite Movies I'm a movie buff from way back. Among my favorites: HIGHBROW: My Dinner with Andre, Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters, MIDDLEBROW: Serials of the 1930s and '40s, esp.Flash Gordon (Buster Crabbe), Dick Tracy (Ralph Byrd). Anything with Fred MacMurray and Dick Powell LOWBROW: Abbott & Costello, The Three Stooges, Hopalong Cassidy. TELEVISION: Primarily 1960s through 1980's series spanning The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis to Mork and Mindy. On the more serious side, the iconic Star Trek series, Mission: Impossible, The Wild, Wild West, Mannix, Mod Squad, and Harry O. My most recent obsessions are the primetime soaps Dallas, Dynasty and their progeny (and their predecessors Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman and Soap).
Favorite Music I enjoy a lot of music, but especially the old hymns, especially when sung by great voices such as Tennessee Ernie Ford. I also love the great vocalists: Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Robert Goulet, Matt Monro, Perry Como, Dean Martin. The music I listened to when younger stirs up a wistful and nostalgic memories: Elvis Presley, The Beatles, Billy Joel, Steely Dan, Jethro Tull, Pink Floyd, The Band.
Favorite Books The Holy Bible, King James Version (accept no substitutes!), New Grub Street and The Private Papers of Henry Ryecroft by George Gissing, Coming Up For Air by George Orwell, Elmer Gantry by Sinclair Lewis.
