About Me

My camera, from my first SLR to my current Nikon D300, has always been required gear for my journey through life. I love being outdoors. My other pursuits of boating, beaching, fly-fishing, scuba-diving and traveling fit perfectly with my love of photography. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and moved to Long Island as a young adult. I love where I live! Long Island has so many beautiful beaches and parks with abundant wildlife. It’s just a wonderful place for taking photos! Visit my blog, Long Island Woman to see and read just why I enjoy my Long Island. Currently, I am one of the featured photographers for LongIsland.com. My images have appeared in New York Magazine, the Town Planner, and Travel Host Magazine. I am also a member of NWPLI and a creative group for photographers and writers, Utata.org. As a member of NWPLI (Nature and Wildlife Photographers of Long Island), my work has been exhibited at the Fire Island Lighthouse and the Castello di Borghese Winery. My photos are copyrighted and permission is required for use or reproduction. See my site, alidathorpe.com for purchase information and to contact me via email. Thank you.

When you open your eyes underwater, do you ever worry that you'll drown?

I usually have a regulator in my mouth, hooked up to an air tank. I can't think about drowning...that's not a good thing when you're 60' below.
